On the draining: There is a rubber plug in the bottom of the bellhousing that gives you access to the drain plug in the converter itself, you will have to rotate the engine around until the plug comes into view or feel.
You don't need to worry about filling the converter with fluid, the pump will do it after you put in the first 6 quarts of fluid then start engine and run for about 15 seconds, then shut off and add the balance of the 14 quarts.
This Mercon V fluid costs a little more than standard Mercon/Dextron fluid but for these tempermental transmissions its well worth it.
I wish you guys great luck, and if you have any problems or concerns during the process please don't hesitate to ask.
The E4OD and 4R100 transmission system holds almost 18 quarts of ATF, and you must waste a couple of quarts to be sure you get it all purged and replaced, so buy 20 quarts of MERCON ATF [do NOT buy MERCON V!]. Ford also warns against using a fluid that has a dual MERCON and MERCON V rating. You may use either conventional or synthetic, as long as it meets the above requirements.
...The 4R70W uses MERCON V, and the MERCON V can be used on older 4R70W transmissions that were factory filled with MERCON.
