That sounds a bit conservative. Just headers, probably 15-20 hp. But I don't think anyone does just headers, I would think its a given that a freeflowing exhuast would follow behind that. Of course it would be funny to see someone splice there stock exhuast and cats back into a header system I bet with a good exhuast and headers you could net 30 hp, maybe more.

I highly doubt 30hp from just a headers and exhaust system on an otherwise stock engine.

The EFI exhaust manifolds flow pretty good.
Just headers, 7-12Hp and no TQ increase

Still doesn't sound right to me. Thats only 6-8% over stock, thats not even worth it! I know people spend hundreds of dollars for headers and exhaust for more than just 7 measly horsepower.

check out this thread. . .

It might not be worth the money to some with a stock engine but with an engine that has a cam, headwork, bigger carb or tb and injectors you can get 30+hp from a good exhaust but very rarely will you get more than around 10hp from a stock engine. An engine works as a system, everything has to work together for maximum performance. Silverstreak in that thread had no dyno/numbers before mods to compare, he also had bigger injectors, msd ignition and a few other things.

The 19lb injector swap isn't a power booster in itself so much as a fix for a factory deficiency limmiting the amount of power you can make. And I wasn't aware that an ingnition box was worth to much in the way of power anyways. I pointed that thread out becuase of the power getting to the wheels, which is the same as what the engine had stock at the flywheel. I'm going to try and find some stock rear wheel hp/trq numbers to compare.

Almost all headers for the 300 are dual outlet.

I don't really use the internet or mags for advice because they aren't always written by very knowledgeable people. I often buy books written by mechanics with at least 20 years experience. A good starter book on engine building and the effects of different mods on horsepower is "How to Build Horsepower Volume 1" by David Vizard. He has a ton of experience building engines and his own dynometer to dyno all the results of different modifications. He has a very good chapter about exhaust systems and the effects of different headers, mufflers, cat converters, etc. Very good book, usually retails around $18.
