2001 Ranger Off Road has been sort of "pinging" on acceleration the past month. Serivce Department says it needs new timing cahins and Guides but it only has 34K on it and is a daily driver no abuse or off roading. Anyone sle have this problem??
It's a 4.0 DOHC
A mechanic i know said that he saw a TSB for the timing belt tensioners on the 4.0 v-6 in the sport-tracs...symptoms were pinging during accel. Could apply to your case. I am not sure where to find the TSB though.

It's actually a timing chain instead of a timing belt. I think that
"pinging" (pre-ignition), and timing chain rattle are 2 different
things....
