wheel bearings?
I am going to be replacing the front wheel bearings on my 93 ranger 2wd. I was wondering what is the best way to get the old bearing races out and the new ones in? I was thinking maybe a brass punch? Any ideas? Thanks Bob

ive always used a regular craftsman punch about a foot long that has a taper to it and its always worked like a charm. I use an old race to start the race seating when installing the new one or you could go to a chain auto parts store with a decent selection of tools and get a bearing race install tool

If you use the steel punch, be careful not to score the side of the hub where the race goes back in. If you do, take some emery cloth to smooth it out. A little heat on the hub before you punch it out will help. Doesn't need to glow red, just warm it up.

i just hammer them out using a punch beening careful not to damage the rotor.for install if your worried about damaging the new race you can freeze them in dry ice for a couple hours and they will drop right in but i always tap them back in with a hammer & punch you don't have to use extreme force just lght taps working around the race saves you the waiting while they freeze unless you also want to use the ice to keep your beer cold but drink fast cause your beer will freeze fast
