How much oil should my 1969 360 take?

I have just bought a 1969 Ford F100 w/360 fe in it and I don't want to overfill it with oil. Any help would be great.

My 74 F-100 with the 390 takes 5 1/2 qts, yours should be the same. I keep Mystic 15w-40 in mine and it performs better than anything else I've tried.

well there is alot more too it then this. is it 4x4 or 4x2 is the pan front or rear sump, is the pan a car pan or a truck pan. most guys in the fe forum run 6.5 in the sump because of high speed pooling on the heads which can drain the sump dry and ruin your engine.

What about a 352 then? Same as a 360/390? I just changed the oil on my galaxie and used 5 qts of 10-40 and a 1/2 qt bottle of STP. Is this too little oil?

LOL!! No, It's a motorcraft. Why, what is wrong with STP? I have always used it on all my older engines with no ill effects. Never in my 5.4 for obvious reasons. But doesen't it essentialy enhance the additive package at the same time as making your oil a tad more viscous? I guess I have never heard anything positive or negative about STP........

check out BITOG stp is nothing more than some straight 30w oil. they have been sued before for false advertising. just make sure that the 10w40 you put in the engine was API SL and NOT API SM . you want a sl rated oil in your enigne with flat tappets NOT SM. SM oil has very little ZDDP which protects the cam. also for ultimate protection of your enigne try the motorcraft 15w40 it will be right next to the 10w40 on the shelf and the same price.
