Unhappy 1997 E-350 no dash lights

This van has 210,000 miles on it. The dash lights went out about 2 years ago. ( i'm finally getting aroungd to fixing them) Also the light that illuminates the temp control went out about a month ago.

I checked the fuses and installed a new headlight switch but they still do not work.

about every few months the dash lights will come on mysteriously but then go out again after a few minutes.

anyone have any ideas? Thanks

I, too, am having this problem and was wondering how to disconnect the speedometer control cable. Everything else is ready to go but I don't want to screw this up. Anyone?

I don't know about the speedo cable on this one but there is a *squeeze the plastic collar and pull out* from speedo.

I have cleaned all the connections, tested every bulb, replaced the headlight switch, replaced all the fuses, and still no dash lights. I am not trying to steal this thread but I am stumped. All of the other lights work except the ones in the actual instrument cluster. I hope you are having better luck taxidriver. Any suggestions will help.

Do you have power to the *connector* that goes to the cluster?

Are you talking about the gray connector that plugs in to the cluster? If so, I think it has power because all of the other lights work when I plug it in. i.e. turn signal indicators, 4x4 indicator, etc. Is there any other connector I should be checking?
