Tire size?

Upon my return from the world's catbox, I plan to make some upgrades to the truck I purchased before I left. I don't want to have to rely solely on the word of the guy trying to make a sale.

This is a 2003 6.0 turbodiesel, F250 Crewcab 4x4 shortbed with the slide-in camper, skid plates and towing packages. For now I plan to keep the stock wheels.

I've read that 35x12.5 's should easily fit under a F250 4x4, while 37x12.5's will require a 2" lift. The heavy duty shocks of the camper package seem to set my truck much higher than other F250 4x4's.

1. Assuming I don't slide a camper or other enormous weight in the bed, will my truck clear 37x12.5 tires?

2. Will these tires fit safely on the stock wheels?

3. Will tires this size cause any transmition or engine computer issues, and if so will aftermarket products such as the transmition and engine tuners available from Banks Engineering resolve them automatically?

First, you don't want to put 12.5" wide tires on the stock rims. I have yet to see a tire manufacturer approve their 12.5" wide tires for that narrow of a rim. Most recommend at least 8.5" wide rims. Second, you're not going to fit 37" or even 35" tires without some serious rubbing issues. Third, shocks make no difference in ride height. The springs that come with the snow-prep package (X code) are said to make the front about 1.5" or so higher than the other spring packages. The tuners/programmers can adjust your computer/speedo for different height tires (there is a little confusion about how tall of a tire the computer will actually accept), which will make the tranny shift at the proper points. However, they won't do anything for the loss of power you would feel from the effective drop in gear ratio caused by the taller tires.

Tanksoldier,

I use 10" wide wheels on my 33x12.50 BFG's. 10" seems perfect for these tires. This is with a '92 F350 4x4 with no lift. I had to space the front bumper forward about 2" to keep the tires from rubbing when turning sharp. I also changed to 4.56 axle gears to get more power from my small engine and larger tires. Sounds like you have a real nice truck waiting for you when you get home Thanks, by the way, for all that you do everyday for all of us back home!

I put clearance pictures in my gallery
315/70-16 on 16x10 rims with 4.5 back space
3.5 front lift. They will not fit w/o lift.
