I Bought my 2002 Off Road new, during the 2003 model year (I got a great deal). Anyway I assumed the Off Road and FX4 were two different trucks. Since looking for parts I’ve noticed the name is used interchangeably. Is my 4x4 Off Road (according to the decals on the side of the Flairside box) an FX4? Or more accurately the FX4 package? I’ve never seen the 4x4 Off Road option mentioned when reading reviews of the 2002s, but always how it was the first year for the FX4.
I get more confusion because from what I’ve read all FX4s come with traction-loc, and my truck doesn’t. Or is that just something new for 2003?

Ranger 4x4's came in three different types. Regular 4x4 had basically no skid plates. Off Road Package was the first upgrade and it came with skid plates and some other items. Then FX4, which had all the ORP stuff plus additional axle and suspension components not on the regular 4x4 or Off Road Package.
You might be thinking of the two levels of FX4. Their is the FX4 Off-Road and the FX4 Level II. I think the FX4 Off-Road is basically the same as the old 4x4 Off-Road package. The Level II is the one with the Torsen Limited SLip, Bilstein Shocks, and 15" Forged Alluminum Wheels with 31" BFG KO's. http://www.fordvehicles.com/trucks/r...r_FX4_Off-Road
