I recently bought a used 2006 F250 6.0 CC Lariat FX4. My question is some trucks have 4x4 and others have FX4 Off Road. Is FX4 an upgrade or just another name to be like Z71?
FX4 Off-Road Package, which replaces the Off-Road Equipment Package. Skid plates, Rancho shock absorbers, a steering damper and FX4 decals are included. The skid plates are also available as a stand alone option.
the Z71 is an upgrade also with bilsten shocks, skid plates, a heavier sway bar, and torsion bars so yeah fx4 is pretty much the same but there is an upgrade from just the 4X4
4x4 off road for '08 did away with the "rancho branded" shocks. It includes fuel tank and transfer case skid plates and a "4x4 off road" sticker.
FX4 for '08 is a package/trim level like XLT or Lariat. It still gets the "rancho branded" (as Ford puts it) shocks. Skid plates and a rear limited slip are included.
On your '06 the FX4 option includes skid plates, "rancho branded" shocks and an FX4 sticker. It also required the buyer to pay extra for all terrain tires.
FX4 OFF-ROAD PACKAGE (55F) Availability:
• Requires 4x4, All-Terrain tires and Limited Slip Axle
• Not available with Harley-Davidson Package (17H) Includes:
• Transfer case and fuel tank skid plates
• Rancho branded front and rear shocks
• "FX4" decal
I called a dealer a couple weeks ago to see if I could add the skid plates. They would need the VIN # and would need the hardware too (hardware not included with the skid plates). Might have to get the hardware at a local hardware store.
