Hello to all as I'm a new member here and a new F150 owner. My past 5 vehicles have been 4x4 Rangers and I wasn't impressed with my last 2 (00 and 02).
Anyways. After changing my mind between FX4 and Lariat about 10 times I decided to go with Lariat because the "luxury" options such as EATC, heated seats, message center, etc. seemed to outweigh the FX4 features for the price.
I've already changed the mismatched Lariat grille to a XLT black honeycomb grille. I didn't understand why they made the Lariat grille silver and left the small grilles in the bumper black.
I also changed the wood grain panels on the doors to FX4 panels, but I still NEED to get rid of that old man wood grain dash panel. No offense to you older guys, but I'm only 25 and my grandparents have that wood stuff in their cars/trucks. Originally I thought about replacing it w/ a FX4 dash panel, but it won't work because of the difference in size between the FX4 A/C ***** and the Lariat EATC.
I was wondering if anyone has seen or installed an aftermarket dash panel kit. I'm interested in either a brushed aluminum or carbon fiber. I prefer a replacement panel vs. a stick on overlay. I did find one company who will "coat" my original panel if I ship it to them, but I haven't heard back on a price yet. It will probably be expensive; however, I'm willing to pay upto $300 to get rid of that nasty looking wood.
Thanks for the help guys. Pictures would be very helpful in this matter.
SOmeone on this forum (can't remember who) had a pretty nice stereo installed ini their truck, and part of it involved refinishing the dash panel. All they did for theirs was have it sanded down and painted. It looked pretty sweet. Not sure if you want to do that to your dash, though?
