i just got my headers in the mail today. i ordered some summit truck headers for the 5.8. you guys are right they are just renamed headers. the ones i got are shorties, not equal length, black painted pace setters. i have no problem with this, considering they have a 3 year warranty and the job is gonna cost only $300. thats the cost for the headers plus labor. ill let you guys know how it goes. installation will be done at a shop on monday.
You might consider going with some quality aftermarket header gaskets, I'm using aluminum header gaskets and so far so good. The gaskets that came with my headers only took about 6 months to blow out.
I hope they work for you. I have heard nothing but nightmare stories about pacesetter headers. I know the pacesetter catback a buddy of mine bought looked like it was manufactured by a retarded chimp. The muffler case appeared to have been cut with a bent pair of metal shears (all jagged). The welds were quite poor too! Lets hope they work for you.

what would be a good header? im possibly looking to get some long tube headers...do i have to get aftermarket gaskets? or do most of them tend to blow out sooner than later?
well i had the headers installed. but................ first of all the guys installing them weren't to good in my opinion. they broke what they called a diversion valve? well i saw the valve they were talking about and its smashed to smithereens right now. what exactly does this do and should it be high on my priority list to have repaired? secondly i still have a minor exhaust leak where the headers connect to the exhaust piping, they say it will prob seal its self. any advice? oh and does the computer have to relearn things? the idle is all screwy and etc.
Man that sucks... they should have to pay for whatever they broke. How big of a gap is the leak? Maybe some high temp silicone and a thicker/better gasket would do the trick.
I'd reset the computer and see if that fixes the idle.
The only valve I can think of is the EGR. What exactly did it look like, and where was it located? You definately need to hold that shop responsible to repair that item. Does it leak because the pipes are misaligned? Have you unplugged youre battery since the header install? You should if you havent, give youre computer a clean slate. Also, I will assume you have a speed density system, which might have something to do with the erratic running. It doesnt like modifications.
well i double checked and asked in one of the other forums on the valve. someone said it was actually called the diverter valve and it pumps air through the thermactor tube into the heads. that could explain some of the problems ive beenhaveing. they broke the spout that the hose connects to clean of so i can't connect the hose back. as for getting them to pay for the repairs its gonna be hard to prove that they broke it if they want to fight me. im gonna go unplug the battery now.
Well I can tell you from experience your exhaust leak will not seal itself. More then likely your going to have to have the y-pipe cut and re aligned to get a good seal at the collector and y-pipe connection.
So your saying that I only have six months on my set of cheapy header gaskets. Uhhh. That just ruined my evening. The thought of installing my headers again.
Oh yeah about that exhaust leak, they dont seal themselves up, they get bigger.
Anyone hear if you soak the gasket in water overnight it will have a better seal? I got a friend that swears by it.
