How do you prime oil pump?

When and how do you prime a 460 oil pump? I am dropping a 460 in my bronco and I am chainging the oil pickup and heard I may need to prime the pump. What is the method for this? The motor has been sitting fo about 1 year, it is out of a 77 f250. Thanks.

Make sure you spin the drill in reverse. I also like to tape the socket onto the extention so it doesnt get dropped into the motor if it comes off.

I was always told to put vasline in the gears before assembley so the pump will not suck air and provide lube for the gears. You should change oil after engine work like that anyway. That is what i was told in tec. school any way.

I think I would put in some moly assembly lube, but not vaseline. I don't even know what the heck that stuff is.
