Temp Gauge Not Working...

So I am driving today on a back country road and after getting myself out of a small mud hole I realise that my temp gauge has gone flat.....I have the 302 in my truck.....Upper Radiator Hose is hot and heater blows hot air? What did I do to it now?

If you put the key into the "run" position, without the truck running, and take the wire off the water temp sensor and touch it to ground, the temp gauge should swing wildly over to "HOT". If it doesn't, bad gauge. If it does, replace sensor.

Fred...Thanks for the reply...Where can I find the Water Temp Sensor? It's still safe to drive my truck so long as I check temp every once in a while, IE. look under hood and feel hoses etc? Im a newbie, LOL

You'll be fine, as long as there's no smoke comming from the engine compartment

Mike,

While the guy who posted just above mine seems to be a comedien, he is right actually. You can drive without your gauge working, no problem.

The sensor is on the intake manifold, its essentially a threaded metal cylinder with a nut-shaped collar on it, with one wire going into the center of the part that sticks up.

If you take it out to replace it, always use a strip of teflon tape on the threads before putting it back in. Any home depot, hardware store, plumber's supply will have teflon tape.

Its actually not tape, its just plastic with teflon impregnated into it. But it seals the threads well. Don't use any kind of "goo".
