Damn mod bug bit me again!!!!

I was originally planning on upgrading injectors this month, but decided to lay the ground work for some big horsepower instead.

As of today i have a shiny new Garrett GTP-38R ballbearing turbocharger and a DPS performance two stage water injection kit on order.

Ken guaranteed me a minimum of 300 degree reduction in EGT's, and between 40 and 90 horsepower increase, dependant on how much meth I run with the water. That does not include the lower temps and increased power that comes with the new turbo.

As always, I will try and keep the board informed of my progress. If you're interested, that is.

Cool, yes very interested. And I know what your saying about the mod bug. Other than some suspension mods my truck is pretty much stock, you guys are a bad influence, soon I'm going to try the 10k mod with the relay on the go pedal and the toggle switch. After that maybe a tymar intake and then.....

Main problem, monetary constraints, paying for a new boat. Does the water kit help cool the turbo itself or the air flowing thriough it?

Neither. the water is injected directly into the combustion chamber (or as close to it as possible). It lowers the cylinder pressures, and as a result of the cooler-denser intake charge the same amount of fuel can make more power.

It also has the effect of retarding the timing a few degrees so that you can run a more aggressively timed program, and bigger injectors with the fear of popping head gaskets and having connecting rods make windows in the block.

OK i'm confused, water in the combustion chamber, isn't that really bad, hence the water seperator. I do understand cooler and denser charge of fuel and air, but water?

Good for you, Cookie! Glad to hear about the new goodies coming, and am anxious to hear how much of an improvement they make. Have you got any baseline dyno numbers, to give you an idea of how much you're really going to gain?

Yep, I've got a pretty good idea

There is a big difference between water injection and water ingestion. If your truck takes a dip in the river and swallows a slug of water at idle you are correct, very bad things happen.

When water is pressurized and injected into a pressurized system the droplets vaporize almost instantly, and it's the reaction of the water droplets turning to steam that cools the whole deal off.

I might have to give Ken a call and order me one of those water injection systems. Ive got the turbo and the injectors for it, i was just worried about my headgaskets. I run a constant 32-34, sometimes 36 if its a good day and the truck is running good. But if i can add 25-40 more ponies and lower EGTS, thats not a bad gig.

BTW, Cookie good explanation on the water injection.

Ok I get it now. That's really cool. Bear with me some of the mods you guys are doing are new to me but I'm learnin'. Would the "steam" that cools the cylinder cause a white smoke in your exhaust?

I think thats a pretty low estimate Dave. Ken told me last night that 40hp is the lowest he's seen on any of the kits he's sold, and on his hot rod truck a 50/50 water/meth injection is responsible for 90 of that rigs 595 horsepower.

I think water is going to be the key to keeping the heads on when these guys start pushing past 700 horsepower.
