I purchased a keyless entry system from 12voltdirect.com #BK4123. I read in another post that this thing was easy to install... the installation directions are for an engineer.... Anyhow, I've located the door lock wires and I'm guessing that I need to remove the door panel to tie into the door lock wires. Meanwhile, I guess I need to power the host unit.. so I need to locate a hot wire somewhere.. Am I on the right track? Has anybody done this that can offer me any tips?
I hate to sound like an idiot, but where is the sill plate? I removed the module that holds the doorlock on the drivers side, and I can see the wires etc.. it seems like the wire might be purple/yellow or pink/yellow.. red is hot 15v etc.. I can get my wireless module wires thru the door to this section, however. So, I was thinking of removing the driver door, locating the wires that way etc... however, the sill plate might be easier if I know where it is...
I guess you could call it the rocker panel plate as well. Its the molding on the floor that goes from the front to back of truck under the door. The harness under that plate is the one that you want. The wires are towards the front. Don't even waste your time playing with the door you'll end up with nothing but aggravation. BTW make sure to hook up the relays that came with the kit
Just a couple more questions <g>
1) Will I be able to get the wires from the keyless unit to the door sill without going thru the door panel? I thought the wire harness went into the door more near the door hinge..
2) I didn't get any relays with my kit...
All the wires you need are located under the sill...no need to get into the door. That is the route I was originally gonna take but the computer and e-brake assembly prevent you from getting to the door harness. You need the relays to have the remote locks work properly. If you don't put them in you could cause a fire....been there...almost done that. Anyway I can't find the website that I got my info from so i'll look tomorrow at my wires and get the info to you. Just a word of advice, make sure you know what you are doing with this as it could cause a lot of grief. Might be better off going to a stereo shop for them to install
There is only one door lock wire per side on the '04. It's set up with reversing pos/neg voltage to trigger the lock. I installed a remote starter in mine and it came with keyless entry. You have to cut the wires in half and solder them to wires connected to the remote system.
Greg250: I have a schematic that came with the keyless kit.. it looks pretty straight forward... If I get in over my head, I'll probably take it to a local stereo shop (time for a stereo upgrade anyways <g>). Where did you mount your keyless module?
I installed a remote start with keyless entry on mine also. It had a bunch of seperate relays for various things. I put the door lock relays in the drivers side kick panel. You may have enough room for the module in there also. Definatly find out if the module has relays in it and if it does not you have to install relays for it to work.
