Wow- that's a new one! I can tell you that when we report the sale to Ford, we have to give them your ZIP code to qualify for the rebate. So, you need a stateside address to report the sale to. I don't think Ford could care less when or where you pay taxes and DMV fees.
That's what we told the dealer but according to them if we don't pay the taxes and DMV fees we don't get any rebate
I'm not familiar with the tax system in LA but is it possible to buy a truck then pay the taxes and DMV fees on our own or we have to do it with the dealer?
I think the dealer just wan't to keep the rebate for themselves since we told them we will export the truck.
I'm trying to think of reasons why the dealer would say this. I do know that, to protect our franchise with Ford, we have to title and register the vehicle here in New York, or if it's going out-of-state we have to issue an In-Transit Permit so it can be titled elsewhere in the U.S. We can't just hand over the MSO to anyone, only another Ford dealer. This may be where the problem is coming up.
MSO- Manufacturer's Statement of Origin. I really want to help, but I'm afraid I may be out of my league on this one. I've never exported a vehicle, but I'm sure many dealers on the west coast have. Can you (or a family member) contact some of these dealers and ask them? Ford of Asia is a totally separate company from the one we deal with, so I don't know if we can give them an MSO or not. Ford owns Volvo, but I can't give an MSO for a new 2004 Ford to a Volvo dealer, that I'm sure of.
I live in New York and purchased my last truck in Vermont. I left the dealer with a temporary vermont tag and some kind of origination papers. I didn't title, register or pay taxes on the truck until a few days later. I still got the rebate. I even financed the tax and the dealer sent me out the door with a $2,300.00 check in my pocket to give the the DMV.
Let's start over. Do you have a stateside address, a legal residence (not a P.O. box) that the dealer can use to report the sale to? If not, there's nothing I can do to help you any further.

So are you saying that you got the rebate prior to registering the truck?
Maybe we made a mistake informing the dealer that we would export the truck which gave them all the reasons that they can get away with the rebate.
Can you drive the truck out of the dealer without paying the taxes and DMV fees???
Is the taxes and DMV fees only paid thru the dealer? or there is another option on how to pay this and get the rebate first?
Yes I drove out without paying taxes or DMV. They did have my address and I did finance through Ford, that may have made the difference. I also had an insurance card.
