94 Explorer Problem

I am having trouble with my Explorer. Runs very rough when accelerating but idles very smooth. I replaced the fuel pump as pressure was low but that has not fixed the problem. I have run the trouble codes and got a PIP (Pick up Induction) Sensor Circuit Failure and a Cylinder Identification Circuit Failure. Can someone help me. I though it might be the PIP sensor which sits on the Distributer shaft but the FORD dealer says he has never seen a pip sensor go. Can someone help! This is a 4.0 Litre engine. 1994

Run a search on this forum back to last summer for "gtest.pdf" Ther you will find a complete list of codes (for a '95 Explorer, but will be almost identical to your '94 except for tranny codes) and circuit "pinpoint" tests.

I already have the codes. I am looking to find out if the problem may be this PIP sensor or maybe something else?

The actual codes are

211 - Profile Ignition Pickup (PIP) Circuit Failure

214 - Cylinder Identification Circuit Failure

Here's the first step in the circuit test for a 211. The rest of the circuit test and the circuit test for the 214 will be in that file I mentioned above.
To prevent replacing good components, be aware
following non-EEC related areas may be at fault:
* Ignition Control Module (ICM).
* Ignition coil packs.
* Spark plugs and/or wires.
* Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor.
* Secondary ignition short to ground.
This test is intended to diagnose:
* IDM Wiring harness circuits.
* Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
1) Continuous Memory Code 211: Erratic Ignition
Code 211 indicates 2 successive erratic Profile Ignition
Pick-Up (PIP) pulses occurred. Possible causes for this fault are:
* Loose wires or connectors.
* Secondary ignition short to ground.
* On-board transmitter equipment (2-way radio).
Repair any problems found, and repeat QUICK TEST. If problem
is not found, go to step 4). If vehicle does not start, go to
CIRCUIT TEST AC.
