a friend of mine wants to put 289 heads on his mustang 302. the heads are ported and polished with stainless steele valves. his mustang is i believe around a 92. what will this modification do for his horsepower?
is this a good idea or is he just wasting his time?
I would say it depends on what he's paying for them and how extensive the port work was.
Whats the casting number on the heads? (it can be found under the head, with the intake ports facing you, it will be to the lower right, and should start with a "C")
There are some variations on these heads, some have smaller combustion chambers and would increase compression, some have the same size chamber and wouldn't be much of a benefit. Some have similar ports as the E7's he has, some are a little better, I guess the ports really depend on who did the port work and how much.
