need help finding the OBD II connector

The check engine light comes on intermittently on my 1997 F350 Dually. I got an Actron scanner to see why, but I can't find the connector anywhere under the dash. Can anyone give me some advice on locating it? Is it possible that I'm looking for the wrong connector because some type of adapter is needed? Thanks for any help.

If your scanner will axcess OBD11 systems then the connection on it will look like the mirror image of the one on your truck. No extra connecions are necessary as all OBD11 terminals have to be the same no matter what year or what brand of car domestic or foreign. They also have to be in plain sight and are usually on the drivers side left of the centerline right at the edge of the lower dash panel.

Well, it turns out that the '97 F350 dually doesn't have OBD II! I guess there must be some special rules for heavy duty vehicles. It does have an EEC IV, and I found a site that tells how to use the check engine light to find the problem. The truck is all better now. Thanks.

Yes the 97s did not use ODB II. The 99 F350 was the first year that it was installed. It was on the 98 F150, so you missed it by 1 year.

The connector is in the engine compartment, l/h side. HD's for that year use EEC IV. If you go to Autoxray's website it has a connector locator for all yaers and types of vehicles.

The conectors you need to use are located at the rearmost left fender apron. They are plugged into a dust cover. You need to jump across the Diagnostic Link Conector (DLC) and the Self-Test Input (STI) conector. The stored codes will flash on the check engine light, but you'll need a book for the code listings.
