i need to find out how tight to set up the clutches in a track lock rear in a 79 f 150 i have the new clutches instaled and would like to know how much torque it should take to spin one axel.
If I recall it is around 200 ft lbs or more. I can try to look it up later today if need be. I just shimmed my buddy's up and when he turns a corner it acts like a spool. That puppy is tight.
Thanks RTM i just installed the new clutches and didnt know how tight it should be i think i will have to put in more shims .It had 10 thousandths in it from the factory and i replaced that with 20 but it still only takes about 50lbs. to turn 1 axel. I think i will add 5 more and try that. I just didnt want to get it too tight
Just make sure that the cover is not held up when you shim it. The cover should bottom out on it's own not the clutches. I would go for another .010 shim if it only takes 50ftlbs to turn it.
well i got it back together and it was to tight it wouldnt hardly slip around curves so i took it back apart and put the stock shims back in. it is better but i chatters real bad when you go around a curve.i think i will add another tube of additive and see if that helps if not i may just drive it for a while.
i just added the second bottle of additive today and it helped it but it is still chattering around corners at slow speeds. i think it is getting better as i drive it. it was so bad it would shake the whole truck.
