i am just wondering if someone could give me an estimate on what these car haulers weigh. the one that i have now is an 18 foot, 5-ton weight rating, dual axle, electric brakes, steel frame, and wood floor. also curious as to how much an average two car hauler weighs. thanks for the help!
Alot of it will depend on how well it's built. If your running I beam vs channel and oak vs pine every lil bit can add up. On an 18' 10,000 gvw trailer I'd say between 3000#-4000#
My 24,000 gvw 21' equipment trailer weighs 4400# But I've got 2" pine deck and 10" C channel and dual axles (8 tires)
thanks for the replies so far guys. i looked underneath the trailer yesterday and it has about 8 or 9 i beams that are 2 inches wide supporting the floor, which is pine. may be a dumb question, but what is a c channel on a trailer?
*my friends 2 car hauler with I-beam structure and steel floor weighed in at 12,000 with 2 8000# axles
is that dry weight or gross weight? if thats dry weight, with two mid size cars on it youd be at 19,000#. and ford only has one truck that is rated to tow that much, the f-550 with a diesel engine and high capacity tow package. of course i do have several friends that have f-250's that are trying to figure out how all of their trucks "weigh" 8800# when some are crew cab and some are reg cab lol. so wasnt sure if that was the case there.
that was the registered weight, haven't actually scaled it. I pulled it with their 94 F250, 7.3 turbo 5speed, it handled it ok, but worked it pretty good, then also used my sister's C30 with 6.5 non turbo, 4 speed, it handled it, but dogged it pretty good. I would probably guess it to be a bit lower too, now that I think of it, but it is one heavy beast. The c channel is simply channel iron, it is shaped like a c kind of, so it gets called that sometimes. according to the door sticker, my 86 250 weighs 8600, but the actual scaled weight is 6200, so I imagine they rate these things heavier than actual for whatever reason.

I HAVE A RACECAR TRAILER THATS 20' OVERALL. THE RUNNERS ARE 16' AND 26'' WIDE, MOSTLY 4'' ANGLE 3/16 THICK,THE BED IS OVER BUILT, I THINK, BUT THE PREVIOUS OWNER USED IT TO HAUL EQUIPTMENT. I ADDED 4' FOLD DOWN RAMPS, FENDERS RUNNING BOARD STEPS, DOUBLE ROW TIRE RACK, WITH AN OBSERVATION PLATFORM. THE PINTO WEIGHED # 2250 AND 8 MOUNTED TIRES WAS MABEY 300,IT SCALED OUT #5299. SO THE TRAILER ONLY WEIGHED ABOUT # 2750.I WOULD HAVE GUESSED ABOUT 45OO-5000 . IM NOT CERTAIN THE COTTON SCALE WAS CORRECT,BUT THATS THE ONLY TIME I HAD THE TRAILER ON A SCALE. IT FELT HEAVY TOWING IT BUT IS SOLIDLY BUILT. ALSO THE FACT THAT I TOWED IT ALL OVER THE SOUTH FOR EIGHT YEARS WITH A 78 FAIRMONT STATION WAGON, MADE IT FEEL LIKE MORE THAN IT WAS.
