Removing/replacing shifter
I have a 1979 F150 4X4 with a 400 and T19 transmission (that is what the Chilton manual says, anyway). I would like to replace the gearshift lever. Is there a straighter replacement for the one currently attached and how do you get to old one off? The reason I am doing this it because we are making a custom 1950 F1/1979 F150 mutation and we need a straighter shifter.

You are right that it is not a T19. The diagram in the Chilton's manual is very poor quality (or maybe my eye sight is worse than I thought!). It appears that the transmission is an NP435 and it also appears that the top plate has to be removed to remove the shifter.
I would bend the one I have but it will require some major bending and that is why I need to remove it/replace it with a straight shaft.
