I'm looking to find another 9" out of a '73-79 truck (are these the only years that are a direct bolt in for my '79?) at the junkyard so I can have a low gear when I want to go to the track and still keep my 2.75 for when I drive on the street. The rear axles really don't take long to swap so I think I'm going to do this instead of just getting a gear somewhere in the middle for all the time.
Heres my question:
Can I find a list of the axle codes for '73-79 trucks anywhere so I know their gear ratio by looking at the door tag? I know we have a decoder online but I'd rather have a list I can just take with me.
Nick
Awsome, that answered my next question. I still need the door codes as the trucks I'm looking at still have the axle under them and they're not on pavement so I'd like to have an idea of what it has without crawling all under it.
Anyone know if any other years fit or if any years are better than others?
Thank you,
Nick
Just out of curiosity, since you have a 9 inch rear end, and the center (pig) is removable, wouldn't it be easier to swap the pig out rather than do a complete rear axle swap?
Just wondering.
