Question, I am looking at replacing my stock rims with some aftermarket rims. I understand that you need a load e range tire for towing big loads, or at least in my case I do. My question is, do wheels have same type of rating??? The wheels that came stock on my truck are aluminum, will any aftermarket wheel work?? I have a 02 PSD Crew 4x4.
Alloy wheels will have a load rating. Check with the dealer.
I don't have alloys so I can't check to see where it would be marked. My guess is either on the inside rim or on the inside between the walls.
It is important to make sure the wheel rating and tire rating ar appropriate to your load. This is often the reason you will see two essentially identical cars with very different load ratings. My SS for example is rated for something like 2,000# trailer while a Caprice(essentially the same car with less power) has a rating something like 5,000#. You would think the SS with more power and better brakes and suspension etc could handle more load. But it is limited by the tires and the alloy wheels it comes with.
