Cam Question

I posted on this sight a while back for some input into what type of cam I should purchase.

From, the feedback I wound up purchasing this cam from Summit:

CRN-343904 Ford: 352-428FE, 260/272 advertised duration, hydraulic, Truck Power, cam and lifter kit

I currently have stock rockers, lifters and springs on a 428. The local machine shop is telling me that I need to add new valve springs to use this cam. It is a pretty mild cam.

Does this sound correct to you guys?

Josh

Yes. Ask them if they tested yours first. The 901 could work with stock springs possibly but it has quite a bit bigger lift. If your springs test out to be close to what is on the spec card then go ahead and use them but they are likely worn and not holding good pressure anymore.

The crane powermax cams have a lot of lift. I would put in new valve springs. Go for the adjustable rocker arms too if you've got the cash, will need new pushrods also. How old is your timing chain, since you've got it tore apart its a good time to put in a fresh chain and gears.

I concur with the rest. You need to have the old ones checked before you decide to use them, or just get new ones, this is what i would do.
