Unhappy 351m

1977 f100 351M 2 wheel drive

Engine was cold, started it let it warm for a minute, revved the engine a couple times... THEN a horrible noise, sounded like the engine was binding... Then died...

Looked under the hood, ALL belts are now loose, the fan is now wobbling.. when I turn it over it feels as if there is no power. BAD NOISE...

HELP. I am a weekend mechanic on me and my sons month old proect

I'd remove the belts and try to start it again (don't let it run more than a couple minutes). See if the noise is still there. If it is, then it's internal. If there's no noise, then it's the alt, p/s pump, water pump or a/c.

Let us know what you find.

Could be the water pump bearing or impeller. Take the belts off and check for wobble in the water pump shaft. Try starting it without the belts, see if it is quiet. Don't run it long!

Okay, I made a mistake... I took off the belts and tried to turn it over. Sounds like it is binding, or seized... Instead of the fan wobbling, I see the main pulley is wobbling???

Am I screwed???

The key that keeps the harmonic balancer in place may have broken.
