Fishing in MO?

Hey guys, need a little advice.... since I have been working 87 (going on 88) days strait (7days a week), I have decided that next week, I am taking the week off for a little camping, hiking and fishing in south east MO. I have heard that Mark Twain Nat. Forest (the section by Springfield) would be excellent for camping and hiking, however, nobody has said anything about the fishing. I want to do some trout fishing (and all of the above). So a river would be nice, so the question is... does this sound like the place to go? Is there even a river in this area, that I can hike too and camp next too? Thanks guys, you all are awesome.... Stan

I'm not a fisherman but back when I was single and roadtripped every weekend, Roaring River out southeast of Cassville was a popular fishing spot. There's a state fish hatchery there. I don't know what kind of fish there are, other than that it's popular, but I can tell you it is a gorgeous drive through the hills. There's a bunch of hiking trails around the hatchery, about as easy or as difficult as you want, and I'd guess there's camping there too. Table Rock lake isn't far from there either.

My Grandparents and Father grew up in Southwest Missouri, and I know that they had a cabin and fished on Table Rock Lake, which is in the vicinity of Springfield. From the stories I was told it was a good fishing spot some 15 years ago. I'm sorry I don't know more about the area, or what it's like today, but maybe that would be a good place to start.

Maybe not that many fishin' folks here? I for one, don't fish, so my response is of no benefit to you.

Traxxis,
Roaring River has a trout hatchery so there are trout there. Same is true of Bennett Springs and Montauk State Parks. There are several nice rivers for float fishing in southern Mo. The Little Niangua has good small mouth fishing and the Eleven Point is very scenic and has some good fishing (so I am told). Bull Shoals, Tanneycomo, and Table Rock lakes are all good fishing lakes. Basically I don't think you can go wrong in southeastern MO. Have fun!
