Hey everyone, I have a 1998 F-150, it's 4X4 with the 4.6L V8, Last spring I broke the tie rod on the passenger side, The ball joint actually is what broke. I didn't have the money to change both tie rods but then a month later the driver side also broke and I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if there is an after market replacement that is tougher? I would like it if anyone has had some info on this problem, Thank you
This does seem to pop up on here every once in a while. I doubt that any aftermarket ends are stronger but you can get greaseable ones that might last longer....if you grease them regularly.
The best thing to do is check the front end closely at every oil change and replace any worn parts before they break.
Thank you racerguy for your input. I usually grab them and see if there is any play in the ball and there isn't but greaseable ones might be something I will look into.
Most after-market parts are greaseable, search for those. I drilled and added grease zerks to my 97 F-150 very easily. It's helped out as I now have 185K and no problems. Good luck.
