Here is a link to a picture taken after an enormous storm front swept through the "Valley of the Sun" (Phoenix) in Arizona.
With all the news on TV lately about the sub zero weather and snow that the east coast and upstate NY areas are experiencing, we shouldn't forget that the Phoenix area has it's share of devastating weather also.
I have never in my life seen such a graphic demonstration of the tragic effects mother nature can have.
That is absolutly Devastating. A lawn chair tiped over in AZ.
Actually, Arizona gets there share of nasty weather. I know from first hand experience when I lived down there. Come to think about it, it should be right around monsoon season.
We did get a pretty good pelting of hail here from the storm that just rolled through the Phoenix area...and the street I live of off was totally flooded on the northbound lanes (4 lane road) thank god I was driving my girlfriend's mom's Explorer that day. By the way...a new weather system has rolled in...this week it's going to be in the mid to upper 80's
I can imagine many insurance companies will be issuing notices of non-renewal to customers in the area. This reminds me of Huricane Andrew and the impact it had on south Florida.
Devastating, simply devastating.
Have there been any early numbers for estimated total costs to recover from this? What about loss of life? I fear the numbers might be high.
Much like the aftermath of hurricanes and devastating floods, I'm sure many long-time residents will simply pack up and move, the costs to rebuild (again!) will be more than some homeowners can bear.
Those who can't move to escape future threats will be left to play the hand they have been delt.
Velcro sales are sure to rise in the aftermath of this.

That really annoys the heck out of me! People get really really really excited when it rains here in the Phoenix area so the locals "News" goes out and stations a reporter at every dang intersection so we can catch every splash as it happens!
Breaking news, It is raining here at the station and now to the west valley. Yep, it is raining here also, now to the east valley. Yep it is raining and how to the news chopper. It is really raining here and there is an idiot trying to go through a wash that has a big puddle in it.
I sure hope that wicked system is gone by the time we fly in Friday morning to Tucson. Wouldn't want to paint the plane green. Flew out last year during the blizzard that hit the NE in Feburary. I was sick as a dog. Would've hated to be the clean-up crew when that plane landed. You know, here in Virginia, one flake and the news crews put out stormcenter "#" whatever channel they are on. Too funny watching them predict. And most times, it only snows once or twice decent. Maybe three times a year at most. All that damage has me a little worried, you think they'll have the airport back up by Friday??
