I had an interesting experience today. I was visiting Covenant College in Lookout Mtn., GA and got turned around on my way home. So I flipped a u-turn in the grass, but it ended up being a 2 foot mud puddle! I just wasnt thinking. Anyhow, I'm only a 4x2, so I was stuck. I tried cramming rocks under the wheels and stuff, but the mud was just like grease. Anyhow, I flagged down one truck. There were two guys, they were more than willing to help, but only had a 4x2 and no ropes. Then this big brand new Ram showed up, with 4x4 and dually. This guy I'm sure had some equipment, but he wasn't willing to help and made that obvious. Finally two fellas showed up with a '88 Ford 4x4 and a chain, praise God. Took them 30 seconds to pull me out, and the guy acted as if he hadn't done any more than put some stray littler in the garbage can. His good deed that saved my day was no big deal to him.
Any of you that have acted like the latter fellow are, in my book, good Samaritains and deserve a thanks. Good job Ford Truck guys.
Currently my chain is wrapped around and thru my spare tire with a huge lock on it. First week I lived in my new apartment, I had both (I always carried two) of my spares stolen but they left my 20 ft chain that had hooks on both ends. I know they didn't take them for the tires, they were crap but I went and got another rim off my other truck and put that chain on it and locked it down. I don't even remember how many people I've towed around or out of things and I'm only 23. ;-) One of the 3 times that I have had tread come loose on a tire on my dads car while I was driving it, a man saw me changing it and pulled over. He was a truck driver and he had just quit with his old company and was dressed up on his way to an interview in the same city I was going to work in. I was commuting 30 miles everyday at this time. He stopped and got out a pair of gloves and finished changing my tire for me. I could have done it myself, I was half way finished taking it off as it was but he passed me and made a U to come back. He told me he was heading to an interview and I told him not to be late on account of me that this wasn't the first tire I'd changed and wouldn't be the last and he didn't need to get dirty but he just said hey it's no problem and went about finishing up. I couldn't believe it! I wished him the best of luck at his interview and I still remember that. I think about it every time I stop. There's a country song that came out a few years ago and it said, "you don't owe me a thing i've been there too and someone once helped me out the way i'm helping you and if you wanna pay me back here's what ya do, don't let the chain of love end with you." I really think everyone should hear that song at least once.
I try and help whenever i get the chance, i had a honda stall out in front of me on the highway this week, hooked my strap to him and towed him off the highway to gastation, apparently he ran out trying to get there.
some people are just like that i guess.ever heard that country song by david lee murphy,THE ROAD YOU LEAVE BEHIND thats my thery anyway.besides you never know maybe a cute member of the oppisite sex your helping out!
yeah well, being a woman, i was taught you never stop to help a man by hisself or a group of men. they're supposed to be self sufficient and there's always the chance that he could be a psycho which is everyone's fear. i help my friends if they ask, and if i see a woman (which granted could be a psycho too but at least i'm more evenly matched) or even a woman with children or a family, then I'll offer to call someone or if there's room to take them to the next town (of course in a truck that can be hard if it's cold) sometimes i'd like to stop to help the cutie on the side of the road but it's just been pounded into my head becuz i'm after all "just a woman." Ah, well. :-)
Even when they drive an import ,I remember, changing a flat for a chinese lady who spoke no english ,it was so windy we where on the 60 and 15 transision ,I remeber cause it was my B-day and I was so happy helping her
My brother was visiting here from Texas in January and him and my dad went the beach to fish. Well he drives a Nissan Frontier and got stuck in the soft sand. There was a sign posted saying don't drive on the sand unless you are in a 4x4. Well he walked down the beach a little ways and asked a guy that was fishing down there if he had a truck and pull him out. Well the guy said he had a truck and he could pull him out but it would cost him and it would be a few hours before he would do it. Needless to say, my brother left with no help. He said he walked back down the beach to his truck and someone else came along and helped them out.
Also I was coming home from work one night not long after buying my truck back in September of 2002 and passed a car on my dirt road with some kids in it that had gotten stuck. They had the front end completely buried in a front wheel drive car. Well I wasn't very far from home so I came home and found a rope and went back and tried to pull them out but I just started spinning and the car wasn't moving. Finally one of their friends came with a 4x4 Expedition that was able to pull it out. Mine couldn't pull it out mainly based on the fact that mine is only a 2wd and a 4.2L. At least I tried to help them out even though I couldn't.
I love it when someone cusses my truck and then they need it! I have been pulled out more times than I care to admit, and I'm never too busy to help someone in any kind of automotive trouble.
i've been known to make die hard chevy fans say something nice about my ford so that "she will feel like she wants to help your chevy outta the damn mud" ;-)
A guy I used to work with was driving down a back road one winter, and came upon a car that had slid off the road into a snow bank. He stopped to help, and the kid inside said he'd give him $5 to pull him out. He was goin' to do it for nothing, but said "ok" and hooked on and yanked him out. As he was unhooking, the kid came up and said he didn't have the $5. Again, he said "ok," got in his truck, and pushed the car back into the snow bank.
