My 2002 explorer Sport Track (50k Miles) now has the check engine light - after having autozone pull the codes it is due to Low / insufficient EGR flow....
Does any one have any pics / proceudres on how to clean it? is it more worth while replacecing it (50.00 or so) or clean it?
First and fore most it may not be the EGR. Which engine does it have? The egr is not the only piece of the puzzle. The egr differential sensor can also go bad and give that code. Let me know which engine and I'll try to help.

Thanks.
I would check with your Ford dealer. Because of so many DPFE sensor problems, Ford has an extended warranty (beyond 36K miles) on the DPFE sensor, depending on your VIN number.
ok - just a little over warranty (50k) any thing else for me to check before that? - I don't know of any dealers that will be open sunday - as well as I know that they won't give me a rental.....
The egr and DPFE sensor are located on the drivers side of the engine. The egr is toward the front and teh sensor is mounted to the rear of it. One mine it was silver with one wiring connector and two vacuum lines. I understand though that they also came in plastic.
You can check the egr operation by removing the vacuum line at the top and attatching another piece of vacuum line and sucking on the line. With very little vacuum, the egr should open. It can be removed by two bolts and undoing the exhaust connection.
I learned the hard way, replaced the egr and still had the code. I then went to Carquest and bought the DPFE and it took care of it. It was about $80 at Carquest.
Both the egr and DPFE can be cleaned but that doesn't always solve the problem. I would start with the DPFE first, IMO.
Most of the OEM DPFE sensors are cast aluminum, which is prone to corrode. the new replacement DPFE sensors are black plastic, which doesn't have a corrosion problem.....
ok - well looks like everyone was right - the EGR appears to be working fine...... called autozone - and they wern't able to help with the DPFE Sensor..... I'll looking on-line to see where else I could possibly go localy to get the part......
