Talking Borla Split Rear Cat-back Exhaust

Just installed the Borla split rear on my truck. The only word that comes to mind is "outstanding". It installed easily, looks great and sounds great (not too loud). You dont have to remove your spare tire or anything else for that matter. I highly recommend Borla for your exhaust needs. I have pics in my gallery if interested.

Grayflare...nice looking pipes, exactly what I'm looking for. Where did you get them, who installed, p/n and price, and...is everything galvanized or s/s?? How's the sound at idle and when you punch it...don't want anything too obnoxious but deep resonance.

BTW, the flareside looks great. I'm picking mine up tomorrow!

Grayflare...went online and answered my own questions. Go to :

http://www.borla.com/automotive/?car...4568.81.206.26

shows kit for 2004 F150 (check your model)

Stainless steel, custom-fab'd, not big bux...sounds like a winner!

WhiteNight,

The part no. is: 140087. The price I gave was $554.95 from BTPerformance off of e-bay. Also had free shipping, and you need free shipping, the box it comes in is large and weighed in at over 50 lbs.

DonsFx4,

See above for some answers. I installed it myself, very easy, only took about 45 minutes. Im sure you already found out it is T-304 SS, all mandrel bent tubing with a million mile warranty. The sound to me is great, throaty but not loud. When you get on it you can tell it but still not obnoxious. At highway speed you dont even hear it unless you give it some gas. There is no drone in the cab. I have seen three systems for the 04, a single side exit, a split rear and a dual side exit. Pretty good selection.

grayflare,
I saw your gallery. I love it! After I get my wheels I want to put the same system on my truck.

I was wondering, how is the clearance around the driver side pipe? I looked under my truck when I was considering having a custom dual rear system installed, but it looked pretty tight going around the spare tire on the driver's side.

The Borla looks great!
Have you noticed any gas mileage improvement? I have 6500 miles on my 4.6 4WD, drive 110 miles per day - highway. I still get between 13.6 and 13.9 mpg. That and the lack of power hurts.

2FastLX,

First of all Thanks for the nice words. Dont worry about the clearance, Borla took care of everything. The crossover pipe is run lower and doesnt interfere with anything under the truck. Very well thought out. May be why it took a little longer for them to get it on the market.

STXOwner,

Sorry, still on my first tank after install and Ive been stepping on it more just to listen to it. As soon as the new wears off I will try to get some real life mpgs on this forum. Before Borla I was getting around 13.5 mpg around town.

Exclamation Need INSTALLATION information please

Okay, pardon my ignorance and/or pure lack of knowledge.

With this out-of-the-box Borla dual rear exit exhaust setup, what will my labor involve? Any welding needed? Or is is simply o-ring (worm) clamps, brackets, etc.? I'm wondering how hard it'll be if I decide to go this route as opposed to having a local shop install a Flowmaster and their own piping. I really like the idea of Borla ... and stainless steel.

Please advise me on what all is involved in taking the old system off and putting the new one on.

Gordo,

Sorry for the late reply. If you are still interested in the Borla it is very easy to install. No welding is involved. Jack up rear of truck and put it on jack stands. Loosen the nut on the clamp of your old exhaust (there is only one), Spray some lubricant of your choice on the rubber hangars and push toward the rear of the truck. The exhaust should fall off, then remove from underside of truck. Lay out all parts and read instructions. Install pieces per inst. and you can tighten clamps a little to help keep pieces in place until you have them situated. Then tighten down all clamps. Crank and test for leaks. Then remove jack stands and enjoy. It only took me about 45 minutes start to finish.

I like what I hear so far about this exhaust system....but what exactly does it sound like??

Anybody have sound clips to share? Or could you compare the sound to a Flowmaster 40, 50 or 70 series?
