can anyone tell me how to diagnose a no start condition on a 92 f150 with a 5.8 liter engine you can spray carb cleaner into the the throttle plates and it will start right up but on it's own no go
i put a distributor in last time it fixed it now it is doing it again
If it will start with carb cleaner it's not ignition I'd look to fuel delivery does your fuel pump shutoff need to be reset, open the schrader valve on the fuel rail and see if you have fuel under pressure perhaps your fuel pump is hooped.
On my `88 F150 , I found the fuel pump on the frame rail ,left side under cab- (truck had 2 pumps , 1 in the tank) the main power wire to the pump was chafed. The wire would intermittently ground on the frame rail , resulting in a no start condition. Also if no fuel , check your harness on the top of the tank where it plugs in to feed power to the pump. On my `88 , that was also a problem.
the fuel pumps run contiuosly with the key on they don't cycle i 'am thinking the pcm might be bad. i have about 35psi of fuel pressure. with a noid light hooked up the pluse is not very strong i have good spark though
So, you're maintaining about 35psi of fuel, you've got flashes on the noid light, and you've got spark. Sounds like maybe a vacuum leak? How does it run on carb cleaner (besides bad)? Rather, does it run like it's missing a few cylinders or what?
runs fine once you getted it started and then when you shut it off it will not refire unless you spray carb cleaner through the throttle plates then it will run fine it also has dual tanks the noid flash is weak though any suggestions
If you turn your ignition switch to ON position, what is the reading of your fuel pressure?
As you said, you have to spray carb cleaner to get it started, what is the fuel pressure once the engine is running?
Normally, the fuel pressure would drop 10 PSI when the engine is running. If your Fuel pressure is the same in the ON position and when engine running, then probably your fuel pump is need of replacement.
Try putting a can of gas line anti-freeze (water remover) on your fuel tank and test your vehicle.
