Question Check engine with high octane??

My `92 F150 302 , pings and check engine light comes on when I burn 91 or higher octane. When I burn regular unleaded the check engine light does not come on. Why would the higher octane fuel cause the light to come on? It still pings going up a hill burning regular unleaded. I recently towed our (my wifes` TT) and it would ping above 50 mph burning 91 octane. I was told carbon removal would fix this.

Any opinions?

Thanks in advance for the replies.

Sty

Have you checked the base timing yet?

Adjustable?

Is the timing done by the EEC , or does the EEC adjust the timing from the "base"?

Thanks,
Sty

It adjust it from the base timing which is 10 to 12 degrees. I have read some people running a little more base timing.

I would pull the codes to see exactly why the check engine light is coming on. That should at least point you in the right direction. I would also check base timing.
