1984 F150 Speaker system?
#4
It's been a while since I checked but as well as I can remember, the 1984 F 150 had 3 audio options. Standard base configuration was an AM only receiver with one speaker under mid dashboard. Next step was a AM-FM stereo tuner with speakers in each door. Long cabs also had two speakers in the rear. Third step was AM-FM-cassette stereo with same speaker set-up as step 2.
Broncos may have had the premium sound system available in 1984. AM-FM-cassette with seperate amplifer and better speakers.

If the radio you are referring to removing is in a 1984 F-150 it is relatively easy to get out and reinstall another one. It can all be done from the front. Chilton manual has directions.
If you want to try to keep the original radio you can get some aerosol contact cleaner like De-Oxit at Radio Shack and spray it into the switch area. Sometimes the contacts are just dirty from 20 years of exposure. If that doesn't help the switch is probably worn out.
