okay well i have been having a problem with my back tank for a while now the sending unit is messed up and it started cutting out on me so i dropped the gastank bad idea on my part and it was full too, yea but i replaced the pump and filter in the tank but it kept cutting out and cutting out and i couldn't even drive it but i switched tanks to the front and i have been driving it ever since just fine but today i was under my truck looking for a tool i dropped and saw that before the filter there is a pump mfi fuel pump is what my book called it and that is the only thing that i have yet to replace could this be my problem and could it account for the cutting out, also where could i find one if it is my problem, thanks
If you switched to the front tank then that is more than likely not the problem, because that is basically you main fuel pump. Did you check for any short in your wires?
Did you pull the ground wire loose when you dropped the tank?
If the sending unit and pump are working erratically even after replacement it would appear as if the pump is trying to find a path to ground via the sending unit. "Wannabe" has it correct... It's in the wiring
but it was doing all this before i dropped the tank and then when i droped it it will run at a certin throttle position but if that changes it dies or just bogs
i have the same problem and we have tried everything and i have no idea either. we can't figure it out and all of the automotive shops in town don't know so if you find anything send me and e-mail if you would.
It only does it on one tank? It would be the wiring to that tank, or the fuel pump. How many miles are on the truck? If the main frame rail pump failed, it would fail on both the front and rear tanks.
Here is an idea. You might want to check to make sure that the vent to the tank isn't clogged and the return lines are clear. If you create a vacuum in the tank, it will not run well. These tanks are vented and need outside air to enter the tank. It's just an idea. My back tank does the same thing, it cuts in/out at times. If I switch to the front it runs great. If I leave the rear tank alone for awhile it runs fine. It isn't the switch and it isn't the pump(I've never seen an electric pump give warning signs).
yea it only does it on one tank and i when i replacec the fule selector vavle i put pressure to both lines to the tanka ndthey both blew clear so i dunno maybe it is the vent but im not dropping that tank as it is the thing isn't running anyways so when it does ill take of the bed and see whats going on
