The Predator

Ken,

Do you have an Email address for Brian at Diablo? Its concerning my Predator still and its hard to get a hold of Brian. Its not like I need an immediate answer anyway...I want to find out if there are any new programs in the near future or if I can possibly get it programmed back to the original tunes. It just runs like crap with all these new tunes. I get bad surge in 40, 60, and 80. The original tunes I had almost no surge at all. Also you stated in one of your posts from december that the P0603 code that keeps coming up would be eliminated with the new update and I get it all the time now with the new programs. EGTs maybe improved 50 degrees.I have used the new program for 3 months now to really get a good idea and Ive come to the conclusion that it sucks, even with my common VDH4 ecm....the other thing it does that scares me is when its cold on the 40 60 and 80 the injectors are so loud it sounds like something is going to break until I get it warmed up, then its normal. Whats up with that? I use Stanadyne in every tank too. If I code it back to stock tune the truck purrs like a kitten....

Thanks in advance

I don't have his email, I always call and if he's in they put me through. 99% of my contact with Diablo is either via AOL Instant Messenger or calling. Unfortunately, I can't give out any AIM ids for Diablo because they use it for dealers to contact them and I'd hate to see them take away that option if its abused.

Right now Brian and his team have a pretty full plate because their senior support guy is on leave. I'll see if I can personally "update" it to the prior version now that Diablo has released the update programming capabilities to the dealers. I'll let you know on Monday.

Damn, this kind of stuff sucks when you have a problem like this (works with everyone except a small minority where it just won't work well) because its so hard to figure out what exactly is causing it.

Thanks Ken. Let me know. I know it does kinda suck. I have been running the hi altitude tune for a week now and I dont get that cold injector noise like I do on the other settings, or turbo surge. Thats really the only tune that seems to fit my truck well. I wonder if when they re program these things if there is any chance something could be off just a little I really appreciate your help in this matter and will pay ya back by ordering a Diamand Eye exhaust system from you this week. Ps, I got the full isspro gauge package from you a month ago and they work excellent. Its a nice set up. That pyro works just like a tach!!! have not been able to get her past 1150 even with stock exhaust, but I also have not hooked up my 10k trailer yet for towing season

Cheers

Ken,

Have you talked to Diablo yet to see if you can get me the original program yet?

Thanks.

Yes. Give us a call on Monday. If someone else other than myself answers, tell Peggy who you are and our discussion. We're going to "de-update" it for you. And send it back with a CD-ROM with about 4 VDH tunes I use with great success on the chips.

Hey Scott & Ken! Sorry to see you're still having problems with your Predator, Scott.

As an update, I received a new unit from DS last week just to see if there was some sort of problem with the original one I bought from Ken. I have to say, Brian did everything he could think of to fix my problem, unfortunately without success - I'm still having problems. The 40, 60 and high altitude tunes are absolutely worthless to me. The 85 horse seems to work okay.

I also did update my pcm to AEB4 just to make sure it wasn't something with my truck that was causing problems.

Since this all started in December, I haven't been able to use the Predator at all, which has been really disappointing.

Ken, if the unit can be "de-updated", could you take care of mine as well? Thanks!

I have not sent it in yet. I just installed my Hog 4 inch exhaust and have been having fun with the power and new sound. Egts dropped too. I can use the High alt. tune well and the Tow level too. Ken, maybe we shouldnt waste the time putting in the old tunes but I was wondering if you could send me your custom tunes for the VDH4. My goal is not to use all these tunes anyway but to use 1 or 2 tunes that fit my truck. I really am not interested in the big horses at this point in the trucks life, its still fairly new.

Ken, by the way, this Hog exhaust is the best upgrade I have done yet. Im working on selling two more systems for you. One 7.3 and one 6.0....Thats 1300.00 Bucks!!!.

Thanks. We'll handle it whenever you're ready, if you choose. We can work out a deal with the exhausts, knock off shipping or something. Those Hog's are really nice exhausts, better quality than the prior brand we carried (not that they were bad) and because we're going straight to the manufacturer you can't beat the price. You should see a nice drop in EGTs.

Scott,
I you don't mind me asking, how were you going to get your old tunes back in your predator unit? I have downloaded the update to my predator, but am leary about updating it. I would really like to be able to go back if needed. Thanks for the info...

Ken was going to help me in someway. Honestly though, from what research I have done, you really should be finewith the update. I wouldnt worry about it. I was the exception to the rule. Now that I let my truck breath a bit too the update does work better. Its hard to compare it to the old tune because its been so long too............ Improbably a bit too picky too

Scott,
Okay i may go ahead with the update. But i pulled my 5er this last weekend and it towed really well in the tow mode 1200deg preturbo was my flat out max temp. I just hate to get a hotter program than i currently have and have to worry about higher temps...I have a stock air box and exhaust.
This ken your speaking of is he a vendor, if so who for? I would still like to be able to go back. All three of my current programs work well..

Thanks for your input,
David

Ken @ Motorhaven.com, and he is a Moderator for this site. He was going to make a special exception for me because of my troubles. I really dont see anyone wanting to take the time to change it back to the old program unless you have a major issue.Ken was going to help me out becuase I buy all my stuff from him exclusively. 99% of the updates have had good results. If you do have any problems, which I doubt you will, go to the Vendor you bought it from. I think you will like the update, the Hi altitude tune is cool, and you tow so that would be nice to have. Good luck...
