transfer case swap

At first it was giving me problems shifting into and out of 4low, it would grind and it was allways a fight to get it into 4H or even 2wd. last week the bronco started making a rythmic humming like the rear was going bad at speeds over 25mph. i took the cover off the rear and the oil was OK, refilled the rear greased the rear driveshaft but the nose stayed. today it started making a grinding noise of and on again, so I checked the fluid in the transfercase. it was low, but what had me worried was the fact that is looked like it had water in it. it was thin and a grayish pink

I think it have it narrowed down to a bad transfer case.
I have another transfer case in a 81 f150 that shifts fine. both the f150 and the bronco have NP208's but the bronco is a C6 and the F150 is a NP435. is there a difference between auto and manual transfer cases?
eventually i was going to convert the bronco to a stick but i need it running now, so hopefully its just the transfercase swap right now.
