Ok so i work for this guy a at junk yard that happened to have a 72' f-100 laying around with a suspension lift on it. He said he was going to smash it and send it off for steel...
Well i convinced him to keep it b/c the body was in good shape and i started working on it. Ok so when i got the truck it didnt have a motor or a gas tank. I took a 390 FE motor out of one of his older flat beds he had laying around and put it in. It bolted right up to the bell housing to whatever trans was already in the f100. I just got it started today after a bunch of stupid issues with the wires being cut and whatnot. The transmission fluid is low and clean as it gets. When i throw it into gear i get nothing, nothing from any gear with the transfercase ingaged. I can put it in like 1st with the transfercase disengaged and it grinds and wont let me put it in drive on the transfercase. So can the tranny be bad??...Why do you think it is not moving?? Is it a bad trans? or bad transfercase? My buddy said that the transfercase might be stuck from sitting??? Any ideas???
Fill the transmission fluid to the correct level, then give it a shot. Make sure the t-case is engaged in either 4x or 2wd, the grinding is really bad for the case.
i have no clue about the trans... the torque converter looked new so i thought i would give it a try. It has a modified 9 inch rear end and a dana front end. I will be heading out there tomorrow to fill the fluid up. It is low and barely registers on the dip stick ill let ya know what happens from there.. Thanx
