I bought an 85 f150 and the guy tells me it has the 351 H O.Can anyone tell me the difference between it and a regular windsor and how to conferm it?
Barry
If it has a factory 4bbl intake and carb, its an HO. I know the vin number is H, but not sure which position. They also have a little bit more lope at idle than a 302 or 351 2bbl
the guys i work with call my 351ho the gutless wonder, the truck is my welding rig and it is slow and powerless and gets 10mpg. it weighs in at 8500#. a friend of mine has an 86 just like mine but with a 460 weighs about the same and gets 13mpg and has plenty of power. the 351 is a good engine but not in a truck you work out of just my 2 cents worth
well the 351ho had a 4180 holley and most other 351ws had 2bl or some other junk. I think the intake might be aluminum on the 351ho cuase they are on the 302ho stangs.
The 8th digit in your vin# is the engine code, "H" is what I have on my 84 with the 351W H.O. It has about 70 more HP than the regular 351W, but yeah it won't win many races with the stock parts. IF you replace the intake manifold and junk carb with an aftermarket setup from Edelbrock or Weiand, it's a bit more fun.
