The only fine I ever got for speeding was near Mt. Olive N.C. and they got me with Vascar.
Fine was $10.
Court cost was $65.
I mailed them a money order.

Okay guys, coming from a cop (hehe)...... Trust me, your radar detector is not going to do you any good, lemme tell you why... when you see a cop sitting on the side of the road during rush hour (especially in PLAIN VIEW), he more than likely IS NOT even clocking you, but rather the presence of the car is to slow people down (granted, if he see's you fly past all the other cars, trust me, you prolly will get pulled over, and you DO rightfully deserve it). This is why your dumb "detectors" dont go off when you see a cop alotta times, it's not that they dont work (in fact, they work quiet well), but rather that the cop is'nt triggering his radar, therefore the "detector" doesnt have anything to pick up. Now when you are all alone and cruising 90 on the turnpike, and you get too trusting of the "detector", and you get pulled over, but your alarm doesnt go off until its too late, that's because the Hi-Poe already saw you and waited til you got into his radar range (yes, sometimes up to a mile or better, look it up), then he pulls the trigger (then your "detector" goes off, but just a hair too late, cause ur already busted) and proceeds with the ticket. Now the ONLY time that a "detector can help you out, is if you are traveling on a stretch of roads that have a few cars on it, but not alot (like early to late evening, afternoon, etc...), then it would help you because when there are only a few cars on the road, the cop is more likely to clock each passing car, therefore your "detector" will go off from the cop clocking the cars in front of you, then you know to slow down. Other than that, they are a waste of money. Oh yea, if you do get pulled over, and you have one sitting on you dash, you're gonna get a ticket, you can count on that, and I dont recomend trying to hide it under the seat while he's still in his car.

And yup, the only thing you guys got going for you is a CB.

But when it comes right down to it, just dont speed people, it's not worth putting yourself in risk, and ESPECIALLY OTHER'S. If you do speed, than dont whine because you got a ticket, you knew what you were doing was wrong, so suck it up and be a man about it.
P.S. At night-time, it is especially dangerous to drive anything more than 70mph (about 103 feet/sec.), as most lights (yes, even high beams) only shed usable light up to a maximum of about 200ft., it takes you almost .25 sec. to realize you need to stop (now you are 175 feet from the object), another .25 sec. lift your foot to apply the brakes (now 150 feet from object), then you gotta ask your self this (especially you guys who drive big trucks), at 70mph in a 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, or even 1 ton vehicle, how many feet is it going to take to stop?? Trust me, your cutting it VERY close.

cops know how to get you with a radar detector, they don't hold it on, they just click it on you long enought to get your speed, by then you can't possibly slow down enough and you just wasted money on the detector and the ticket you are going to get. so save the money and just slow down, it's safer anyways, and saves gas, and is always cheaper. it's also a great feeling to pass by a cop doing nothing wrong, just smile and wave.

i have heard a CB works great, but they are not all that friendly with new users, so talk to someone that knows what to ask. never used one myself but thats what i hear.

Break one-nine for a ten-thirty-six (what time is it?? lol)

Anyways, Texan is right, think about it, a mechanic know's the "tricks of the trade", a carpenter too, dont you think that with all that time to practice w/ a radar gun, a cop know's the "tricks of the trade"???

I thought I needed a radar detector at one time. I even bought on of those $300.00 ones thinking I would get more protection from it.

Unfortunatly I was wrong, about 3 month of having it I got pulled over for a massive speed. Radar detector did not go off or give me anykind of warning until the officer was standing next to my car.

It was a few years back, but I do remember it cost me a couple hundred & a suspension of my license for 3 months.

I think it about it now & think it was funny. The officer was in the middle of asking for my license when it went off. He just calmlt asked me if I purchased a warenty with it because it obviously wasn't working correctly.

I am interested in the Rocky Mountain brand of detectors and jammers. Now a jammer seems the way to go since they cant get a signal reading.

on another note, why is it when someone asks a question that requires some technical answers like this post or ones about exhaust things etc,we have to sift thru political correct speeches, dont speed, dont remove the cat convertor etc, blah, blah. Why is it people think they have to preach to other people? The original question was not should i speed or not!
