'92 Explorer Driver's side door wont close...

My '92 ford explorer's driver's side door seems to have fallen about 1/2 inch. When I attempt to close my door I need to lift the door about a 1/2 inch then the latch will line up with the "stem". When the door is latched the door seems to line up fine, but If I do not lift the door then the upper portion of the latch strikes the "stem" and will not close.

When I lift the door I notice the movement with the lower hinge. Is there a fix for this? Or do I need to replace my door?

Ahhh, that's what I was wondering. I'll inquire about them tommorrow.

Next Question, is it difficult to remove the door? Anything I should be aware of while I do this? Any tricks?

Thanks in advance.

Bottom hinge is easy to remove. Top hinge is much more difficult since it is difficult to get to the bolts tha hold the hinge to the body. I've done both but if I had to do it over again I'd replace the entire bottom hinge and just the pin on bushings on the top hinge.

Buy a pair of replacement hinge pins at any
auto supply for around 5 bucks. Probably
the same as f150 pins. Don't remove the
hinges. One at a time, grind off one end of
your worn out pins, punch it out while
supporting the door, then slide in the new
pin and install the retaining clip.

I take off my doors once a week.... if you have to take them off, it Otho's suggestion doesn't work, you will need two people, b/c the doors are HEAVY!! and you need to disconnect the factory connector that lead into the passenger cabin.

On my 93 Explorer Sport. Dealer doesn't carry pins and bushings. Only complete hinges, $60. Bought pins and bushings on e bay for $15. Support door to stay as close as possible to where it is. Unbolt 4 bolts from door hinges. Move door enough to drill off top of old pin, drive out with hammer and punch. Replace bushings, drive new pin in from bottom, insert clip. Same on second pin. Not a hard job. Replace bolts thru hinge to door. Done. DO HAVE DOOR SUPPORTED SECURELY...

Thanks ya'll,

I fixed the door. The trick to finding door pins for a Ford Explorer is to use F-150 pins. They don't sell them for Explorers, they do sell them for F-150s. I removed the door from the hinges by undoing the 4 bolts and using my beer cooler and my wife I was able to support my door at the right height. I didn't have to undo the wires at all. With the hinges still attached to the body of the truck I used a DREMEL and cut the pins in half. I removed the two cut portions of the pin and then pulled the hinge apart and poked out the worn brass bushings.

With a hammer I tapped the new bushings in place and put the hinge-piece back in place onto the other half of the hinge. I put in the new pins and attached the clip. Then again using the beer cooler/wife technique I slid the door back into place and put the 4 bolts back on. VIOLA!!! The door is as good as new. Plus I was finnally able to get access to my beer cooler.
