How are you guys figuring your mileage? I was always under the assumption that mileage figures should be figured by odometer miles and gallons used and not trip computers which i see a lot of posts that contain these figures.
Happy motoring!
I have checked the mileage both manually and with the trip computer. The trip computer is just as accurate if not more so. The computer actually knows exactly how many gallons have past through the engine. Each time you fillup and check the mileage manually it could be different. If you are on a different slope when you fillup or the gas pump clicks off at a little different point can cause slight errors on manual calculations. I was skeptical about the computer at first but now trust it.
I check my mileage both ways, but only post calculated mileage. My trip computer is consistently high. It's usually around 0.4 mpg high, but on highway trips where I get better mileage it's even more optimistic.

Are you guys talking about the digital trip odometer that comes in the truck or something aftermarket. If its aftermarket, can you point me in that direction please??
I am awating my 2002 F-250 XLT, but the overhead console with the compass and all that was only available on the Lariat models.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Just bringing this to the top, looking for a response.
Yea, we're talking about the overhead computer that only comes on the Lariat trim level. The mpg function is more for entertainment for me. What I really like is the temperature feature. And my son likes watching the compass change directions while we drive.

I wanted that trip computer put on my XLT, but the dealer told me it could not even be added afterwards because the wiring harness is different on the Lariat. The compass was no problem, but the mileage and temp. would not function.

That stinks! Thats what I tried to do, same story. I wish I could get something like that aftermarket. If anyone has any info, please post it.
