my 72 390 camper special with 23 ft chasis mount coach seems like it could use an overdrive transmission. i seldom drive more than 55 mph, sorry, tail wag. can the aod be built up to be as strong as the c6? i think i want a unit from a 92 or 93 e or f truck. will the vaccum change make mods to the stock carb power valve necessary. is this truly a bolt up, or will there be problems with the shifter likage and drive shaft? i plan to keep the truck until it falls apart so just 2or3 mpg would help.
They didn't make an AOD for the 390.
You will have to get an adapter, then get the drive shaft shortened. The AOD that you will end up with is for small blocks.
And yes, they can be built to handle a lot.
Go to this thread, I had found a couple of links for adapters and transmissions. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...hreadid=185095
