Ok here's the deal, just picked up a 95 Explorer at a local auction. The truck had no stereo when we bought it, I got a Ford Factory radio out of the boneyard, and it works fine I think. Everything lights up, but no sound out of the speakers. After pulling the door panel off, much to my surprise there were no speakers. So another trip to the boneyard and now I have speakers. Still no sound. Upon further examination, I found out that this truck had a custom sound system with tv screens in the headrests, mega amps, speakers the works..that was pulled out when the truck went through the auction. I eliminated all that junk, just to put the Factory system back in place, but no matter what I try, I cannot get the speakers to work. I tested them outside of the truck with a old fm radio i had kicking around, and they work great. This truck has a factory amp located in the right rear 1/4 panel, that seems to be working (I think), and all of the factory connectors are in place at both the radio end and the amp end. Anybody got any suggestions as to what to try next? I've got 4 days into this truck, chasing wires all over hell and creation, and I'm truly stumped. Help!!!
Well the the truck is a 95, and the head came out of 96 Lincoln. We have the original radio that came out the truck, and are experiencing the same problem.
Can you describe the explorer a little better. What model was it, did it have the JBL system, does it have the cd changer, and where the factory connectors at the radio intact.
The JBL audio systems had no speaker level outputs at the radio. Everyone of the speakers where driven by factory amps. That includes the doors, rear and sub. Now, thats only on the JBL, the premium and standard all use different configurations also.
