OK experts and those with experience. If I get the Predator and keep it in the 65hp setting...I travel highway a good bit...and pull a 4K to 4.5K boat. I plan on getting exhaust to lower egt's. Do I really need to have a pyro gauge towing so little? I won't be running in the 100hp setting. I know it is always advisable to have a pyro but I don't tow enough weight...I don't think.
I tried posting this in another thread but didn't get any responses. Thanks for advice.
Thanks Cruisn, I know it is always best but I am not towing a heavy load and would leave it in 65 hp most of the time...if not all the time. I would prefer not to get gauge if towing a max of 5k with exhaust would be safe. Ken...your input appreciated.
Fish, I have exactly the same question. The most I will be towing around is my 20' Center Console Ebbtide. I think I'm gonna drop down to the 45 hp mode when I go to tow though, just to be safe until I can get my X-monitor ordered and installed. Hopefully someone will answer both of our questions.
I pull my Enclosed 4 spot down the highway at 75-80 mph and I've never seen it go above 1100F.And I leave it on the 65hp setting at all times.Even thru the notch it only went up to just under 1200F with my foot in it.
The predator book says you can safly tow up to 8000lbs with a stock truck in the 65 hp setting it only reccommends gages when useing the 100 hp setting.
I'm with Tim GET the GAGES. The EGT's on the 6.0 climb really fast, and it seem like it takes forever to get them below 300 degrees before shutting down this is even running in the stock mode. even if you have to buy just the pyrometer do it. it is not hard to install. I'' even install them 4 U if you want to drive the 4 hours to St. Louis MO.

I agree with getting the guages first it is cheap insurance against frying your tubo or even worse. If you can't afford the $200 for the guages then don't buy the exhaust. It is better to know what the true temps is than it is to think they are ok just because you opened up the exhaust.
King Ranch why did you opt for the cat back instead of the whole system I am looking at both and I need some feedback.
I talked to the folks at Motorhaven about running a Predator on my truck..They said NO PROBLEM other than MAYBE a little extra smoke on a hard accelleration @ 65 HP..I'm having Rear Main problems (not huge) and it's at the shop "as we speak" looking for the cause..Hope they get it right this time!! I also have the Moan/Drone and I DO NOT want to add any gauges, pipes UNTIL they get "ALL" of my issues straightened out (just incase they might like to buy it back!!)..What I would like is, better mileage, and the power/shifts that seems to have vanished until my trucks issues are resolved..My question to them, and to you Predator users/owners is this....With no aftermaket pipes and gauges, are your EGT's staying low/safe enough in STOCK CONFIGURATION to run at 65 HP with an empty truck, or moderate load (not towing) Motorhaven made no suggestions as to a Pyrometer, or gauges @ 65HP range (but I know its a good idea).. But my questions to them were regarding ONLY the 65 HP increase...Should I do any towing, than the gauges would be installed (not til summer) and MAYBE on another truck!!!
