King Ranch why did you opt for the cat back instead of the whole system I am looking at both and I need some feedback.

I didn't want to deal with warrenty issues and also I heard that the turbo likes a little back preasure.

King thank you for the reply: I have also heard that they like some back preasure, Ive also been told that the cat alone contributes about 100-300 Deg in exhaust temps at the turbo depending on power settings. I am also concerned about warranty issues and I have been told that removing the cat does not void the warranty. I am also thinking of getting one of the Edge Juice units with the attitude monitors that will monitor the EGT's and will automaicly detune to keep the temps at a safe level.

Any hard facts out there.....
There is a lot of info on the main Predator thread including this test I did a couple of weeks ago:

Here is some EGT Data.
This is the truck and conditions:
2003 Ford PSD Super Cab Short Bed
Weight 6500 Pounds with Driver
0603 Build Date
Original Flash
5500 Miles
No Problems
265- 75 -R -16 30.5 inches tall
3.73 Posi

Predator set at 65 HP
K&N Cold air with mass air
No other modifications
Auto Meter EGT gage with probe installed with clamp >2" from turbo outlet flange.

Air Temperature 40 Deg.
20 MPH head wind
Idle Warm 400 Deg.
Around town, max 50 MPH 400- 600 Deg
75 MPH Cruise level no boost 590 Deg
85 MPH Cruise level no boost 600 Deg
Add 10 lb boost for hill +10 Deg
Passing floor it >10 sec 80 – 100 MPH 25 LBS boost 650 Deg
Full throttle til speedo goes back to zero at 3000 RPM 790 Deg
Full throttle until 3300 RPM (maybe ¼ mile from 80) 800 Deg
Engine still accelerating strong at 25 lbs boost at 3300 temperature seems to be maxed out at 800 Deg.

FYI - IF you get a buy-back OR replacement truck, they HAVE to either move the upgrades or pay you full price with receipts - I KNOW this

But I agree with you, don't do anything that they can use against you or gives the impression even of a mod that CAUSED the problem...

And then there's always OTHER dealers if this one is giving you problems...
Ask for an oasis report to ensure they put ALL your complaints in... (you DID keep records didn't you?)
then have a second set of "service" eyes to look at it...
Warranty work does NOT have to be done at the purchase place - but you can get some perks if they take care of you...

good luck with it !

Thanks.. jdadamsjr

The problem is that I want my truck fixed "for sure".. And we take all of our Fleet Warranty and any "spill over" work there..It's kinda hard to be assertive, or borderline "mean" to the guys that you see on a regular basis!!

I'm documenting it very well, especially after reading the posts here about the Buy Back "arm wrestling" that is required to get Ford to "pony up" to suppying a good truck, that they got good money for..

It's in the shop right now for the R/main leak, and they gave me a Chev. Cavalier to drive!! Lotta fun there boy!! They'll get one more chance at a fix, and if they don't get it right, I'll take it to another dealer, and get the area Master Tech involved if he isn't already..

SURE MISS that SD!!! .. Once driven...Hard to go back!!!

Choctaw Bob I have my pyro probe in the driverside exaust maniford. My temps run considerably higher. When I get on it merging on the highway up to 80 MPH I've seen the egt climb as high as 1200 degrees if I just let off of the throttle it will come down to 600 within a second or two @ 75 MPH 2000 RPM flat ground I run at 625, but a little incline with cruise on it goes up over 800 degrees. Tim stock exaust takes 2-3 minutes to cool down below 300 I have a steep hill to climb up the road before entering my drive way. It doesnt matter how easy I drive up this hill EGT climbs to 600 when I park it will drop down to 350 in a second or two but takes forever to get down below 300. I personnally believe that the pyrometer should be place pre-turbo as close to the turbo as possible to get an accurate turbo temp reading. If my readings are way off from everyone else's please let me know so I can check into a new gage or possible engine problems.

I just don't know what the temps should be with the probe in that location. That location would have been my choice until I realized that the turbo housing has a lot of moving parts and takes the place of a throttle body. A broken probe might disable the truck.

Sure understand

You don't have to be mean...
on my 02 buyback I was just "concerned" when I talked to them...
and stayed that way for weeks :-)

and used a lot of this....
"Would you want your wife (little daughter, young son) whatever to ride in this thing in it's condition?"

OR

"What would you want done if this were your truck?"
or
"How would you fix this situation?"
or
"what do YOU think is fair?"

I gave them the chance to resolve it....

course if they didn't come up with the "right" answer
(what I wanted to hear)
I'd ask the quesion again with a little more "concern" in my voice...

Worked for me !!!

I drilled into the down pipe about 1" from the turbo flange. The Autometer kit had everything I needed to clamp the probe to the pipe without a leak. Works perfect.
