What is the expected longevity of a stock Motorcraft battery? I have had a few die on me early, and was wondering if this is typical. The most recent is a 35 series that is about 6.5 years old. I do not live in a very harsh climate (ie southern Virginia), so I would expect them to last a bit longer.
Mil!ion - I agree, it seems that these lead-acid batteries are hit and miss, based on manufacture and use.
Frank - My battery too was prorated up to 8 yrs as listed on the battery sticker, but the local Ford dealer won't honor that since the car is no longer under warranty.
John, I wouldn't accept that from the dealer. In my case, I bought it for my 1988 F150 which I bought recently, and the dealer assured me that as long as I can prove when I bought the battery (ie. sales slip, or some date on the battery), he would honour the warranty for 8 years/prorated.
I would have a chat with your dealer, because the warranty on the battery should be unaffected by the warranty on the car.
Good luck!
Frank.
My 97 Lincoln Town Car still has the original Motocraft battery in it. I am going to get a new one before it goes out because, when they go it is usually at an inconvenient time.
Wow! 10 years! Ford rocks! My dad has replaced every battery on all his trucks in the last 2 or 3 years. They are all now 1000 COLD cranking amp batteries. I also have the same battery in my truck. Works great! So good in fact that my truck wasn't charging and I drove it for 3 days before I fixed it!
mines 8 years old, but a little red ball just showed up in it a week ago. Not sure what it indicates cause theirs no chart, but it cant be good, after all it’s red.
Red is bad, green is good. (condition viewing port)
I don't know why but I've always had really good luck with batterys in a new rig. It seems like after I have to spring for the first replacement they only last for about three or four years after that.
