This really isn't electrical but figured someone here would have delt with is while installing guages.
I have an Autometer mechanical water temp guage. The sending unit and copper tubing are all attached to the guage when you get it. Can any of this be disconnected at either end for installation so I don't have to make a gigantic hole to stuff that fitting through? It doesn't appear that I can disconnect it from the back of the guage at all but I'm wondering if I can pull the sender probe off the other end and remove the fitting. I'm just not sure if this will damage the copper line.
You can not take apart the sensor or the tubing. all you can do is take off the fitting that goes in the block. The nut past the sensor clamps it into the block adapter.
Not only don't try to take it apart but take care when straightening the tube as a small kink will also ruin it. That's one reason I went to elect. gauges. You can even have extra sensors in the pan and tranny and switch between them.
Thanks guys, I figured there was no easy solution.
I just never trusted the accuracy of electrical temp guages, plus I like the full sweep look. Was tempted to get a full sweep electrical but they didn't have it in a 2 1/16. Nothing is ever simple, but I appreciate the quick responses. It's off to buy grommets!
