I thought we beat the Wal-Mart topic to death the last time lol. That said, the last few times I have been there,it seems to be stocking less American made products than in the past.
everyone always wants to pay the lowest possible price, but then hate the place that does it? kinda a catch 22. i'll buy from them because motor oil is so much cheaper there. and i like that. as for american made stuff? some things are just junk anyways, so agian i will pay for a lower priced thing, where it's made i don't really care. it still takes american workers to ship it stock it and account for it. remember all those stories about how hard factory workers life was, why do we even want those jobs here then? i get sick of seeing some of these things, sometimes you have to give a little to take a little. want lower priced items? let them make them else where because they can't do it here because americans want more money to do the same job.
I dont shop in walmart for other reasons....500 people sitting in the isle with their basket carying on a conversation. Ask them to move, they look at you and keep on talking. I do like doing burnouts in their parking lot.
Originally posted by X-1 Heres a topic to fire up. Stay away from your walmart. Why, well several reasons. Everytime the open a super walmart local businesses suffer. They pay their employees less which lowers the local wages, and by buying bulk junk from over seas they are helping to eliminate american jobs. So next time you are in your local walmart, think about the people thru out the u.s. that have suffered because of the greed of one company. Sam Walton would be turning over in his grave.
I don't care about any of those reasons. I don't like to shop there because the store has gotten so darn big it isn't conveninent to shop there anymore.
How big does a company have to get before we start hating it? Mircrosoft, WalMart, Intel, we cheered all these companies on when they were smaller. They were taking on what seemed insurmoutable odds-- the underdogs. They had a better method and were successful. Then at some point they overcame a lot of their competition and they became the big industry and we started hating them.

but that happens in most large stores with annoying regularity.
I hate Wal-Mart simply because they threatened to sue our parish into bankruptcy if they weren't allowed to open a SuperCenter on a piece of land that is too small to support the parking, and also has terrible drainage. Literally across the highway is a HUGE piece of ground begging for development. But, they ain't interested in it.
I am also dreading the empty big-box. We already have one standing idle from a grocery store that went out of business.
Mall-Wart...I'd gladly shop anywhere else. If there was anyplace left!

Hate the idiots, not the store. Give them the respect of saying 'excuse me' then barge thru... Walmart is a terrific store, but God help the poor sap who waited until Christmas Eve to do his shopping there- LOL
I can picture a future Walmart shopping center, the big box anchor surrounded by interconnected Walmart speciality Departments/stores with an internal tram service. A Walmart Vehicle center will be included, selling, Walmart vehicles made in China. Not as far-fetched as you might think.

This actually sounds feasible. Have you been to a real "mall" lately? Everything is so generic! I definitely see Walmart stores getting bigger and offering more "services" as time goes by. Imagine paying your cable bill to Walmart/ Comcast, financing your vehicle thru Walmart Motor Finance Corp and doing it all online thru Walmart/AOL! Scary!!!
But don't giant corporations usually end up getting too big??? Remember old Ma Bell??
i know the argument about how k-mart and bradlees and those others all came and went. but Walmart is a lot bigger than that. most people dont see how huge they are, the gigantic warehouses they have and the tens of thousands of trucks, etc. it would be a shame if they ended up being the only place for anyone to get anything. i dont mind paying a dollar more to mom and pop's hardware store, we should try and keep them going before they become something we tell our grandkids about. they provide so much walmart can't
Originally posted by georgedavila ....That's one of the reasons West Coast grocery chains held out against union demands for employer paid benefits, to allow them to implement the same policies nationwide and better compete with Walmart. Their (grocery chain) wages, at an average of $15/hr are still way out of line, so that'll have to be adjusted to keep them in the game. .......
They make $15/hr and WE still get abused when a check out clerk has to do their job?
No wonder more and more stores are going to U-Scan-it machines.
